Up All Night

2006-06-20 - 10:04 a.m.

Stayed up very late last night with Brin and watched Keane on the Tonight Show. They played their newest single "Is It Any Wonder". The keyboard player now has synths that plays a guitar-like sound, which I think adds more depth to their music. To me, a lot of the songs on "Hopes And Fears" sound similar, simply due to there being only piano, drums, and vocals. Not to say it isn't good, though.

Afterward, we stayed up - barely, in my case - to watch Jack Klugman be interviewed by Conan O'Brian. I was never a fan of "The Odd Couple" when it was on, but I did enjoy "Quincy". Jack suffered from throat cancer several years ago, and lost a vocal chord during treatment. His voice is now very whispery and raspy, but the dynamic energy is still there.

This is a man who is still very much alive and out there. His hair is completely white, but the energy can still be seen.

If you have the money, pick up season 1 or 2 of The Twilight Zone. Klugman's performances in "A Passage For Trumpet" (season 1) and "A Game Of Pool" (season 2, with Jonathan Winters) are absolutely magnificent. There's also the set for Quincy.

Still a little bushed from last night. Enough for today. Be seeing you.
