Hello Again

2006-12-26 - 9:45 a.m.

Welcome back, everyone. I hope you had a good Christmas with you and yours.

I drove down to Escondido to spend the night at my parent's house. Christmas morning, I was treated to two rude awakenings. My parents are those go-to-bed-early-wake-up-REALLY-early types. I was awakened Christmas morning at about 7:30 - not by them, but by one of their dogs. Bo decided that, since everyone ELSE was awake, I should be awake as well. So I'm awakened by this semi-soft "woof" near my ear.

Second rude awakening came when I turned my cell phone on, and found a message from Brin, telling me James Brown had passed. I therefore present this tribute.

Another thought: on the way down, I saw a billboard advertising James Brown's upcoming appearance at one of the Indian casinos. Somehow I don't think he's gonna make it...and I don't think suing for breach of contract will do any good.

So the family congregated. Hilarity ensued.

My family is the type where there's nine conversations going on at once, laughter everywhere, people throwing in one-liners into other people's conversations...total chaos.

Mom actually came up to me and said, "You know what, Dave? Your family is nuts!"

My response: "Of course. That's why I'm like this!"

And somehow, the dinner came together on time, and perfectly.

After dinner, everyone congregated into separate rooms, into different conversations...and people would wander from room to room, joining into different conversations as the night went on.

But by 6pm, everyone else was gone. I was the last one standing.

I made the drive home, unpacked. Then I went to see Casino Royale. You've all heard this before, but it's GOOD. It's a reboot of the series, yes - but it helps explain why Bond is the way he is. And although it's been updated from the original novel, the source is pretty close. Texas Hold-'Em instead of baccarat. SMERSH doesn't show up. But boy, it's really good.

Then I grabbed some dinner and went home.

It was a good Christmas.

So now I go back to work. And Brin's coming back on Thursday.

Reboot.

Be seeing you.
