"Well, here I am / Back in town..." - Gerry Rafferty, "Waiting For The Day"

On Friday and Saturday, I had all kinds of problems getting my computer to run. The computer would seize up and then the image to the screen would blank out. Then it wouldn't boot up for a try or two.

The interior was very warm. I did some checking and, with a lot of help from Dave Kern (our bass player and my computer guru) determined that my CPU had overheated and fried.

I hated this idea. Even with a parts sale, I was looking at a huge expense I wasn't ready for.

Then I got lucky - twice. Brin and John, God love them, agreed to loan me some cash until I get paid (next week). And I found a new motherboard / CPU combo at such an amazing price that I could afford to also get memory, a new graphics card, and an adapter card for my DVD burner - and still spend just over half of the loan.

Sunday, I had only gotten about five hours sleep. So I woke up, purchased the equipment, and went to work early (so I could use a table and some tools).

Success - everything seems to be working. As of this writing, it's been running for almost five hours and all the parts are playing well together.

Whew.

Found an ep of House on cable last night. Never seen the show before. Pretty cool.

Here's a good quote from the person who hired the grumpy Dr House:

"When I hired you, I knew you were insane. I will continue to try and stop you from doing insane things...but once they're done, trying to convince an insane person not to do insane things is, in itself, insane. So when I hired you I also set aside $50,000 a year for legal expenses. So far you've come in under budget."

And:

"You know how some doctors have the Messiah complex, they need to save the world? You've got the Rubik's complex - you need to solve the puzzle."

Heh heh.

Okay. I need to get some sleep. I have to be at work in less than seven hours.

But I'm back online.

Be seeing you.
