Lots of public figures get demonized for one statement -- e g Jesse Jackson and his 'Hymietown' comment, or when Dubya was caught saying the word 'asshole' about somebody he didn't care for. When public figures say stupid stuff like the aforemention, we get a glimpse of what alligators are lurking in their sewers. What Ann Coulter said about those women who lost their husbands to an act of terrorism was one of the most low-down, skunk-mean, undermining things I have ever heard, but then again, as you know too well -- insecure women who don't know doodly about other people tend to strike first, and strike hard.

Sorry, no free passes for Ann. She's said plenty of other boneheaded things in the past, and she's been on the pundit circuit long enough to be media-aware.

Oh and one other thing: Cindy Sheehan has been invited repeatedly to come and speak her piece in a debate on KSFO, the conservative radio station here in SF, and she keeps refusing. Be very sure you know where the blame lies when it comes to the behavior of Liberals.

Just to be fair, does that mean the pro-war folk who have also lost loved ones on 9/11 should shut up? I mean, we wouldn't want them to be using their loss as a platform to promote a political agenda, right? The appeal to emotion is a basic rhetorical tool; Ann just managed to stick the screwdriver into her palm.
