Fun Fun Fun

2006-10-09 - 12:54 p.m.

Yesterday was a game night for me. And again, I had a blast.

Not only did I learn to play four new games, I also got to stand around and talk politics and TV and generally shoot the breeze with honest-to-God grown-ups...people who really make me feel like I'm a friend and I belong. I had at least three people come up and say, "Hey Dave - good to see you." I don't get that too often.

At one point I asked about where to purchase some of these games, and was basically told that, as long as someone brings them, it's cool to borrow and play them. So I don't have to go spend a lot of money on these things...which is cool, as some of them are in the $30-40 range. (We're not talking Monopoly and Parcheesi, folks - we're talking Ingenious. We're talking Puerto Rico. We're talking Power Grid. Basically, the subset is called "European board games", which focus more on decision making rather than roll-of-the-dice randomness. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I prefer to think my way out rather then just roll the dice and hope.)

I'm glad I have this monthly meet.

Well, got an e-mail from work. There are things to accomplish today.

So...till tomorrow...go play a game.

Be seeing you.

Being able to socialize with people other than the ones you live with and work with is like rain in the desert. :-)

My current game favorites (outside RPGs) are Flux, Settlers of Cataan, and Honor of the Samurai. Picked up a game called Gloom - a morbid little affair where you have to arrange a horrible end for the members of a family (it's twisted in an Edward Gorey kind of way).
