Summer Means Fun

Boy, it is hot and muggy here. I left work last night and the humidity was a smack in the face.

Roommate Jim told me that, instead of cooking dinner as planned, he and his date went to an air-conditioned restaurant. Can't say as I blame him.

I'm reminded of a joke Mark Evanier told: "I wouldn't say it was humid, but I fell into the pool and never noticed."

Darned if he ain't right.

Now THIS is telling.

In Australia, they held a religious art competition. One entry depicted Osama bin Laden "in a Christ-like pose" and a statue of the Virgin Mary "covered in a burqa". This has offended many, since "Australia's 20 million population is overwhelmingly Christian".

But, unlike the Mohammed cartoons, there has been no rioting. No violence. Lots of discussion and (I'm sure) angry words, but nobody's been hurt.

And Islam is supposed to be the "religion of peace". You wouldn't know it based on how they conduct themselves, and by how the "peaceful" ones have "spoken out".

At a Colorado school, there was a class discussion that turned to immigration. One student was disciplined for chanting "white power".

I wonder if the student would have gotten into trouble for chanting "black power" or "Latino power".

So, a day off today.

I think I'll sit in my shorts in the living room with all the fans going, order a pizza, and watch the first season of this show.

Then, the gig.
