Light Up

2007-09-10 - 12:07 p.m.

The temperature stayed in the 80s all week, which is a VAST improvement from the 100s of the week before Labor Day.

Did a game night last night. Didn't win any, but still had a good time hanging out with my friends. For the last 90 minutes, we just hung out, talked gaming, and laughed a lot.

It was a good day and night.

In Great Britain, there are plans to ban plasma TVs because they use too much energy.

They also want to ban electronics that stay on "standby" instead of turning off.

Wouldn't it be easier and more cost-effective - not to mention less likely to piss people off - to do PSAs asking that people turn things off?

Oh, and there's this:

The group will also suggest scrapping Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as a measure of the nations success in favour of a model that measures peoples happiness drawn up by Friends of the Earth.

Yeah, that's it - the thing that determines how successful your country is should be how "environmentally friendly" it is. I'm sure at some point in the far-flung future the recommendation will come down: "Humans are bad for the environment - kill yourselves."

Mark Steyn strikes again.

Saw a brilliant letter-to-the-editor in the OCRegister that I just have to share (it's the second letter down on the page). It's about Whoopi Goldberg and Terrell Owens defending Michael Vick's actions by saying that dogfighting is "normal behavior" in the "deep South".

The letter writer wonders...if someone called them the N-word, and then explained it away by saying "that's common where I come from in the deep South" (which it may very well be), how much slack would Goldberg and Owens cut them?

My guess? Probably not very much.

Well, I have a couple things to do before work. I'd best get to them.

Be seeing you.

Hmm. I guess by the Gross Individual Happiness Index, we're a third world country, given how most people drive, and the fact that we sell antidepressants by the metric ton (not a knock against properly prescribed medication). And perhaps these fruit loops might want to consider that in a totalitarian state, everyone is happy ... or they get shot.
