Doctor Robert

2008-01-07 - 7:30 a.m.

Gee, four hours of sleep. The apartment maintenence guy is due to arrive to fix my screen door, so I get to lock up Solange in her cage for a bit. Then maybe I'll take a nap and catch up on my rest.

===

Yesterday, Brin wrote an open letter to Oprah Winfrey, chastising her for unleashing Dr. Phil upon the world.

My thought - which is based on what little I know about him - takes the following items into consideration:

  1. He is a doctor.
  2. He had a private conversation with Britney.
  3. He then issued a press conference with a "diagnosis".

Now, maybe I'm wrong...but if he "consulted" with Britney about her mental health needs, isn't it a huge breach of ethics to then reveal such confidential information to the press? Isn't he leaving himself wide WIDE open for a lawsuit?

Some medical items about celebrities do get released. If a celeb goes to the hospital, doctors tend to have press conferences about what happened, if only to get the reporters out of the hospital...and usually - USUALLY - it's to report that the celeb survived whatever caused them to go to the hospital in the first place ("The Reverend Al Sharpton was admitted this morning for emergency surgery...and we are pleased to report that we have successfully removed his skull from his rectum"). So maybe Dr. Phil is within his rights to announce what Britney "needs".

But considering Britney's feeling toward Dr. Phil, I'd say a lawsuit is in the offing.

(Today's title, by the way, is about a quack who basically is a pill-pusher. It seemed appropriate.)

UPDATE: The good "doctor" has canceled his planned show about Britney, which was to feature Britney's parents. So maybe her screaming about it (see previous link) made a difference...or maybe her parents got a clue.

Nah...must've been the screaming.

Speaking of Sharpton...

===

Global warming? Really?

===

Gee, look what happens when you don't pay taxes - you get denied service by a volunteer fire department. Seems the fire was outside their jurisdiction...180 feet outside.

Gosh...imagine if they had the illegal immigrant problem that exists here. All those folks who don't pay taxes, getting all those services...

===

If it's Monday, it's time for Mark Steyn.

===

Well, the maintenance guy will be here shortly. I have to wrestle Solange into her carrier.

And order some iodine.

Be seeing you.

I'm not sure if doctor-patient confidentiality exists, as the story is that Britney's family asked Dr. Phil to speak with her. Still, I don't think she's being particularly well-served by a guy whose first instinct is to hold a press conference.

I'm not getting the 'Doctor Robert' reference.

The lyrics are here. It's a Beatles song - the "doctor" is a fake. Since we were talking about "Dr. Phil"...
