2008-01-10 - 11:02 a.m.

Last night my cable internet connection went out. I knew it wasn't because of payment, since I was still watching Whose Line on ABC Family.

I called tech support, and (after 15 minutes on hold [thank God for unlimited night/weekend minutes]) found out that they were working on the problem. My connection came back in about an hour. They had told me four hours.

I wonder if they follow the Montgomery Scott School Of Repair - multiply all repair estimates by four. That way, when it's fixed, you look like a miracle worker.

Yesterday, I talked about the Supreme Court hearing a case about the voter ID issue. Well, it looks like the Court has no problem with voter ID. Again, part of it was that opponents couldn't produce proof that anyone was discriminated against.

"This law hurts people!"
"Whom has it hurt?"
"Ummmm...give us time, we'll find someone!"

Uh-HUH.

From Hud:

Someone has filed a lawsuit for damages from Katrina. No surprise there - there have been several.

What's weird is the amount: $3 quadrillion. That's $3,000,000,000,000,000 - a three with FIFTEEN zeroes. That's more than the national debt.

I found out last night about the passing of Johnny Grant, the honorary mayor of Hollywood.

From all accounts, Grant was a kind, energetic man who worked hard promoting Hollywood. He appeared in films with the likes of Bing Crosby and traveled with Bob Hope in the USO. He was present at the unveiling of more than 500 stars on the Walk Of Fame.

It's always nice when a good guy makes good. He'll be missed.

Britney's family is mad at Dr. Phil for "not keeping his mouth shut" and going to the press. McGraw refuses to apologize, saying "[s]omebody needs to step up and get this young woman into some quality care".

If that were his only motive, then he had no reason to go to the press and announce his "diagnosis".

A man in Poland didn't mind his wife working - he just minded where it was.

Of course, the question is...why was HE there?

This year, the Boy Scouts are adding a new mastery item - how to deal with bullies, including "cyberbullying". This will be required to reach the rank of Tenderfoot.

I think I lucked out - I got razzed a lot, but I just ignored most of it. I got some validation at my 20th reunion, when I saw that the jerks were still jerks.

===

Well, I've got even more errands today - we're playing a wedding soon, and Bob and I are going to go check out the venue.

Be seeing you.

Quality care. Clearly, not what Dr. Phil is offering.
