Bein' Green

2008-06-18 - 7:51 a.m.

Not sleeping well. Not sure why. Woke up around 6:30 after about five hours sleep.

Might be allergies - my sinuses are clogging up a little, and my throat is dry. I'm coughing a bit, but it's not "productive" (i.e., no globs are coming up), so there's no chest congestion.

More news as events warrant.

In England, a radical cleric described as "Osama bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe" is being released from jail:

He is will be electronically tagged and put under a 22-hour curfew at his family home in Acton, West London.

He will not be allowed a mobile phone or access to the internet and the bail conditions include a long list of Islamic radicals with whom he is banned from communicating, including Osama bin Laden.

Oh, that just makes me feel SO much better.

In the Wearin' Of The Green Dept.:

The Boston Celtics beat the living shit out of the LA Lakers last night - the final score was 131-92.

Frankly, I was pleased. I wanted the Celtics to win, and I caught some good-natured razzing from employees for it.

Last summer, Kobe Bryant held a press conference saying he had been "promised" a championship-caliber team, and wanted to be traded if he didn't get one. What a spoiled-brat, unprofessional thing to say.

And then, last week during the play-offs, Laker coach Phil Jackson blamed a loss on the poor play of the Lakers' center...another unprofessional thing to do, IMHO. I've watched Angels manager Mike Scioscia refer to losses as "part of the game" and saying the other team simply hit the ball better. I've also seen Angels players say, in essence, "Our pitcher did a great job - we didn't do OUR job and give him run support". That's professional - not the smack-job Jackson handed out.

So suck it up, Jackson and Bryant. Let's see them whine NOW.

Speaking of being green...

Remember Al Gore's huge carbon footprint? Supposedly he was going to make it smaller.

FAIL.

There's an entry over on Mark Evanier's blog where he talks about visiting Universal Studios. Here's an excerpt that should scare all us older folks:

"I was watching people there film portions of the finale to Land of the Lost, a forthcoming movie starring Will Ferrell in a remake/update of the classic Sid and Marty Krofft Saturday morn series of the same name. It'll be a big (maybe the big) Summer release next year ('09) [...]"

Good Lord. A Land Of The Lost remake. With Will Ferrell.

Why do I have this feeling that a big-screen treatment of "Lidsville" is next? Probably with Rip Taylor as Hoodoo?

Okay, I have things to do, even on my day off.

Don't worry - a nap is in there somewhere.

Be seeing you.
