It's Only Make Believe

2009-06-19 - 8:12 a.m.

A much earlier post today.

===

So I spent the majority of yesterday just kicking it...doing laundry, watching the kittehs.

There were a couple serious wrestling matches - low growls, hisses, and the like. I actually pulled them apart one time. No blood, but it sure seemed like they wanted to hurt each other.

I'll keep an eye on them.

One of the things I did was look through my collection of actual VHS video tapes and see what I could throw away. As some of the TV shows I had taped got released on DVD, I didn't have any use for the tapes.

I wound up tossing eight tapes into the trash. There's two more I haven't trashed yet - an ep of Speed Racer and Project A-ko. These, I may put up on eBay.

Now, you all know I watch a lot of late-night TV, mostly TV Land and Nick At Nite. Nick picked up The Nanny, and I gotta say I'm enjoying it.

On the other channel (TV Land), there's Roseanne. I've never been a fan of Roseanne The Person so it probably comes as no surprise that this show doesn't grab me at all. I watched a few episodes as part of a marathon, and it just came across as coarse, shrill, and loud...and even more of an insult-fest than Married With Children, which is another show I never got into.

Yeah, yeah - insults are a staple of the sit-com. But most of the time, you get the feeling that the insults are in jest. On Roseanne, I really got the sense that the insults weren't make-believe, but REAL - like the disdain that Roseanne felt towards the kids/husband/friends/bosses was said with no sense of humor behind them. It just didn't do anything for me.

Then there's Silent Library on MTV, which is an adaptation of a Japanese game show. Some gross-out humor, but has a few funny moments as a team of six perform wacky stunts for cash - but since they're in a library, they can't laugh/cry out/razz/make noise at all.

But most of the time, the TV is off. I've grown to like the quiet.

Well, I'm taking Laila in for another check-up today.

If you are able to, please donate by clicking the button to the left, say thankya.

Be seeing you.
