It is my sad sad duty to report that our bass player Dave Kern lost his wife yesterday.

She was 50.

He called me in the late morning as I was prepping for my day off. I returned his call:

Him: Hello?
Me: Hey, I got your message - what's up?
Him: Dave...Angie died this morning.
Me: WHAT?
Him: Angie died this morning.
[pause]
Me: I'm on my way.

I quickly got dressed and drove over. Dave and his daughters were already surrounded by friends and family. People came and people went. Bob came over for a bit and we all cried and hugged and comforted each other as best we could.

His son William called. The Red Cross is working on getting him back here ASAP (he's deployed in Afghanistan right now). No word on when or where he'll arrive, but at least a half-dozen people are willing to go pick him up and bring him home.

I stayed until Dave finally decided to try to take a nap. Then I headed home to feed the cats and collapse a bit myself.

It was an emotionally exhausting day and night.

I called Dave this morning. He's still an emotional wreck. Like many others, I told him to call if he needed me. He promised to do so.

I'll be going by several times over the next few weeks. If all I do is help ease the burden, I'll do it.

Please give a good thought and/or say a prayer for Dave.

Angie Kern was one of the good ones. I will miss her every day.
