That Iranian thing isn't so much an Islamic issue as an issue of a different culture mixed with religion. There are a lot of tribal and cultural traditions in Africa and the Middle East that claim women as property that must be pure before marriage. Oh, and the only reason that Hamas has an outlet is because they are loud and make a lot of noise and somehow hornswaggled their way into power in Palestine. Imagine if Fred Phelps or John Taylor Bowles somehow got power in a county government. Just think of the press conferences. There was outrage over David Duke and George Lincoln Rockwell but it was more of a 'what an idiot' kind of thing and not everything they said or did that was outrageous required a response.

What does 'culture' have to do with right and wrong? Our 'culture' used to think slavery was perfectly okay. Are you upset that our culture morphed into something more humane and reasonable?

My point is, a fourteen-year-old girl was stoned to death based on a "suspicion". NOT on facts, but SUSPICION. He killed his daughter, which alone is a tragedy and an outrage - but what if his "suspicions" had been WRONG?

I'm less concerned about the jihadists coming after any of us than I would be some teenager getting stoned for daring to READ any of us. Ultimately, though, I think the moderates don't speak out because Islam has reform-through-violence built in. That's the true idea behind jihad - that Muslims, driven by strong beliefs, could change their faith from within. It's not supposed to be a war against the outside world, but nobody's going to question the lunatic fringe.
