Turn Me Loose

And I'm back.

Everyone have a good weekend? Excellent.

What? What happened to my stint as a juror? Well, there lies the tale...

I arrived at the courtroom a few minutes before 9am, like I was supposed to. I greeted my fellow jurors and chatted a bit. Then I sat to wait.

And wait. And wait.

At 9:30 the bailiff told us there had been a delay, and it would be about another 15 minutes. At 10:10, we were brought into the courtroom, put in the jury box...

...and then told by the judge that, due to some circumstances, the case "could not go forward at this time", and we were being excused from jury duty.

So we trucked ourselves downstairs, told the Jury Commissioner that we had been excused, got our parking passes validated...and we went our separate ways.

And that was it. I'm done for the next twelve months.

I'm of two minds of the excusing.

On the one hand, I'm glad it's done. I won't lose any time from work, and I don't have to worry about getting up early for trial and then working all night.

On the other hand, this was going to be a criminal trial (felony robbery). My first one was a civil trial, and I was kinda looking forward to doing a criminal trial.

Good and bad. But it's part of what makes this a great country. In some parts of the world, the defendant would simply be put up against a wall and shot.

So after getting up early, getting breakfast, and so on...I'm tired.

So I'm going to take a nap before I go to work at my usual time.

I've yet to be selected for a jury. The attorneys never like my answers. go figure.
