Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Thanks to calmer conditions yesterday and today, firefighters are getting the upper hand in this mess, which has been officially named the Triangle Complex Fire. The fire is right now about 40% contained.

Over here is the current fire map, updated regularly. To put me in there, my work is near the northeast corner of the 57/91 crossover, and my apartment is southwest of there, near Disneyland.

However, my dentist's office is near the 91/Yorba Linda Blvd. crossover...and they're open.

So I still have my dentist appointment today. But it's just a cleaning.

About a half-dozen of my co-workers were evacuated from their homes on Saturday, including my immediate superior (he lives in Corona, near where the fire started). As of yesterday nobody had lost their homes, although several homes near my boss' house have been destroyed.

One of the homes my parents owned during the 80s and 90s was purchased by a close friend of theirs. I swung by there after work yesterday. According to Richard, the area a half-mile north of him had been evacuated, but there was no such order for his neighborhood. Looking at the current map, that evac area is now gone, so he should be okay.

Thankfully, there seems to be no loss of life. Let's hope it stays that way.

Some schools are giving the kids the day off, because they are being used as evac centers. I believe that the parents will want to keep the kids close to home, so we won't be that busy.

We'll see, I guess.

But I have a dentist appointment to get to.
